Who of these three were the better or best at what they did? Smokey - Marvin - StevieAside from longevity, chart success or maybe you'd want to include those things; but who do you think was the best composer/producer/performer Say as much as you like or as little, add what you will or take away a few things But think about who you think was the best of the three. You can like all three or not like all three, but think about their work to date or go decade by decade and see how each measures up in your eyes

I think all three were good at what they did but I would say Stevie and Marvin do tie. Smokey was a good songwriter when it came to the love songs but even when he departed from the Miracles to branch out on his own, he sorta stayed in that theme whereas Marvin and Stevie pushed more boundaries. Their 70's albums really got people to open up their minds and look at the bigger picture.
Both of their production styles to me, were very innovative. I believe that Marvin wanted out of the shell Motown put him in for a long time but it was all about timing. The 70's was a bigger platform for him and he delivered more than people would ever imagine :thankyou:
With Stevie you can tell that he soaked up everything he possibly could from the 60's and created his own formula. IMO Stevie is proof of how far all of the Classic artists could have come if treated right by the company and given some of the artistic freedom that they may have required. He's managed to fit perfectly into every decade and still give us that Magic :yeahbaby:
And singingwise, Smokey's range seems very limited. Stevie and Marvin could do things that still blow me away :word:
