On Friday 18th March 205 The Supremes are on UK Radio station BBC Radio 2 at 7pm to 7:30pm.
Supreme Girl Power! New series 1/3 (3 parts). Angie Stone celebrates the Supremes, the Motown hits machine that emerged from the girl-group era to dominate the American pop charts like no othermatove act during the 1960s. Nurtured and packaged for white and black audiences by Motown king Berry Gordy, and fronted by Diane Ross until a personnel shift in 1969, the sequined, quintessentially camp trio enjoyed a run of hits singles unique in their polished perfection, including Baby Love, Stop! In The Name Of Love, You Can't Hurry Love, Reflections and Love Child. This first part recalls the early, pre-fame days, with input from Supreme Mary Wilson, plus archive interviews with Diane Ross and former Supreme Florence Ballard, who died in 1976.
