BROTHER OF FORMER LEAD SINGER OF THE TEMPTATIONS GIVING TRIBUTE
(MAA NEWS) - The brother of legendary deceased lead singer of the Temptations Paul Williams is creating a life long dream in dedication of his brother. Joe Williams is the younger brother of Temptation singer Paul Williams, and is proud to create a program entitled "A Tribute To Paul Williams: An Unforgotten Temptation".
Organizers are totally hush, hush about the exact location, and date; but the Motown Alumni Association has discovered that the projected date of the event is February 20, and the planned place is expected to be Ford Field (home of the Detroit Lions) in Detroit, Michigan.
Ford Field Representatives have not confirmed the event, but sources say that the stadium is where Williams works, and the most likely place to have the event.
Paul Williams came from Birmingham, Alabama with cohorts, Kel Osborn, and Eddie Kendricks, by way of Cleveland, Ohio naming themselves the Cavaliers.
Williams, Osborne, and Kendricks hired Willy Waller while in Cleveland; they also hired Paul Hayes and Fred Fluellen during their period of time in Cleveland. Wasn't until the group met a local pimp that ended up as their manager (Milton Jenkins). Jenkin's took Williams, Osborne, and Kendricks to Detroit to find a better music medium for his group.
All three guys were tired of the Michigan music scene, so they went back to Alabama.
Kendricks and Williams went back to Michigan, leaving Osborne as a solo artists.
Williams and Kendricks met a group that needed a lead vocalist by the name of Otis Williams and the Distance. Otis along with bass singer Melvin Franklin, and Al Bryant joined up with Paul Williams, and Eddie Kendricks to form the Elgins. When the group got the record contract with Motown, they changed their name to the Temptations. originally Williams, and Kendricks where the lead singers of the group. Eventually Bryant
was fired for striking Williams (Paul) at a show, and David Ruffin was in.
Williams (Paul) stayed with the group until the late 60's; Sickle Cell Anemia, and other problems cause Williams to leave the group. In August of 1973, Williams was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head near the Motown studio.
Motown alumni are invited to attend by calling Darrell Gooden at (313) 273-1496. Sponsors and News media should also call the same number for
requests.
