BET will sing the praises of soul icon Smokey Robinson next month at the networks’ Annual Walk of Fame ceremony.
The Motown singer will be honored at the 10th Annual Walk fo Fame in front of a crowd of industry insiders and invited guests when the show is taped live on October 9 and airs on October 26 at 9 p.m. (EST).
The ode will be punctuated by performances from Stevie Wonder, India.Arie, Joss Stone, Gerald Levert, Brian McKnight, Usher, Gladys Knight and other talent. Wonder will croon Robinson’s hit “Tears of a Clown,” Joss Stone will sing “More Love” and others will harmonize tunes that have made Robinson an R&B and Soul staple.
At the ripe age of 64, Smokey Robinson has established himself as one of the premier prototypes of a musician/songwriter/entrepreneur.
His biggest songs were blockbusters like “Tracks of My Tears,” “Ooh Baby Baby,” “Cruisin,’” “Quiet Storm” and other notables. As the leader of the Miracles, Robinson crafted songs for his own group but also for Motown acts like Mary Wells and the Temptations. In addition to his musical legacy, Robinson is also one of the orginal artist/executives. Besides being a producer and song writer, he also served as vice president of Motown in the 70’s.
These days, all facets of the Smokey Robinson legacy thrive. Currently, he has a line of frozen gumbo dinners under the banner of Smokey Robinson Foods on the market. He also released another album in April of 2004 called Food for the Spirit, his first Gospel album.
