Does anybody know where I can find a complete back catalogue of Marvin's cd releases? It is my aim to have every single song Marvin ever has had released. I know a few I am missing, but I have virtually evry album now, including the rare 60's albums (except hello broadway), but I just wonder if there are any releases after his death that I am not aware of that contain new songs. Thanks

With the exception of the Deluxe packages and Cellarful 2 there have not been any major recent releases that I am aware of that contain new material ... Welcome to the forum

I'll say if you want rare tunes within known songs, get the 20th Century Masters, Vol. 2 collection featuring "My Last Chance", then get the "Gold" collection with "His Eye Is on the Sparrow" and "Where Are We Going?" but if you do want it all, "The Master" is it, you just gotta find it. Hopefully, they'll have it one day re-released and sales only 18 bucks though it's a 2-disc set.

It seems that actual studio works have been exhausted. That doesn't mean there is nothing "new" out there. The Holy Grail for MPG fans is the LOVE MAN album.
Supposed Motown destroyed every copy of the album after Marvin declared that it wasn't up to snuff. Two songs from that album did survive tho. "Ego Tripping Out" is on the IN OUR LIFETIME CD and "Funk Me" survived the LOVE MAN sessions.
Most of the "new" stuff these days seems to be Marvin's live performances. It's not something i'm complaining about tho. It seems Marvin has the least tv coverage of any Motown act so I cherish any kind of video of him.

I agree with you, and his live songs are just as good (if not better in some cases) than some of the album versions out there

Thanks for the replies folks, but I think I am aware of more songs than your good selves! Theres a few I need to get, and being from the UK, some of them seem to be harder to get. I have the deluxe packages and I didn't think there were any Marvin songs on the Cellarful volume 2! I also have the Master box set, some great stuff on that one, I'm going home and double clutch being my favorites. I also have my last chance and the Gold CD, another 3 great songs though! I know there was a CD named the Marvin gaye Collection, another 4 CD set I think, haven't been able to get hold of that yet. There is also a bonus track on the Norman Whitfield sessions Cd which I don't have yet. The Pops we love you instrumental is also on my wanted list, as is the sanctified lady instrumental. I also heard there was a record cut out from a cornflake packet that he did, I wonder how much that is worth these days! I also heard there was a 60's tribute album of some description (somebody's death), in which Marvin recorded a song. I also have 2 of Marvins Coca-Cola advertisment jingles which are pretty rare. Damn I could talk about this all day lol.........how about the Ego tripping out instrumental, the mister sandman song, the Hello Broadway album, then of course you have the tracks with the Moonglows etc, and those he may have recorded backing vocals on................ looks like I'm never going to finish my collection! Seriously, if anybody is aware of any other rare songs, I would be eternally grateful. And my fav Marvin song? All the way 'round ;D

Marvin was on EVERY DAMN THING, baby!!!! :woo: I got the "Gold" album and it's slamming: "Where Are We Going?" could be released now and it'll be a hit. It's a timeless unreleased gem by Marvin that I'm glad was rediscovered. I wish Marvin had found it in him to release the material though I do think Motown still was trying to pull on Marvin's strings of control. His version of "His Eye is on the Sparrow" is fantastic. Oh and I can go on and on about the 11-minute version of "Got to Give It Up" if I could. Marvin probably recorded around 10000 songs in his lifetime. Regardless of him saying that Anna "made him work", I think he was a workaholic anyway. He loved music and music loved him.

Blimey has it been that long!
Seems that nobody is a real fanatic collector of Marvin's material as I am. If anybody considers that they are a big collector and have a huge collection of Marvin releases, such as rare singles etc then please let me know. I am trying to get to the stage where I have every single commercial Marvin release and I think I have a fair way to go. (such as Instrumental B sides on single releases etc, and if anybody has that record he apparently had as a cut out of a cereal packet, let me know !!!)

Also, I am looking to generate a definitive list of Marvin songs (like an A-Z ) including alternate versions etc. If anybody would like to work with me on this, again please let me know.

I can only suggest that you keep an eye on ebay and other sites of that nature. To attempt to collect every single commercial relase by any artist is a gruelling task so good luck!
