We know 50 Cent can dodge bullets, but can he dodge the law? Apparently not.
The rap superstar pleaded innocent Monday in Springfield, Massachusetts, to three assault charges stemming from a brawl at a concert earlier this year, a spokeswoman for the Hampden County District Attorney confirmed.
Fiddy's attorney, Steve Leary, entered the not-guilty plea on behalf of the hip-hop star, who was not required to attend the arraignment.
The 28-year-old onetime crack peddler, who was listed on the court docket under his real name (Curtis Jackson), got in the Massachusetts mess last May, when he made a surprise appearance at the invitation-only Spring Jam event at the Hippodrome club in Springfield.
Performing before a 1,400-person crowd, 50 Cent was about 10 minutes into his set when he was beaned in the head with a water bottle. That didn't go over well with Fiddy or his crew, who dove into the audience looking for some payback and incited a melee that allegedly left three women injured--hence the three assault charges against him.
Despite the scuffle, which purportedly did not escalate beyond pushing and shoving, 50 Cent returned to the stage and finished his set before heading for the exits.
Police took two other men into custody for disturbing the peace. Charges weren't filed against Fiddy until an investigation took place and a hearing was held last month at which point a clerk magistrate decided there was enough evidence to prosecute.
The rapper, due back in court for a pretrial conference on Feb. 8, was reportedly packing a pellet gun, loaded with rubber bullets, in a Gucci holster (so much for keeping it real).
In the meantime, he's set to make his feature film debut in Locked and Loaded, a semiautobiographical tale about a drug dealer who foregoes a life of crime in the 'hood to pursue a musical career.
The film, to be directed by Jim Sheridan (In the Name of the Father) and written by Terence Winter (The Sopranos), is expected to hit theaters late next year.
Rolling Stone also reports that 50 Cent is currently in his Farmington, Connecticut, studio with Dr. Dre working on a follow up to his multiplatinum debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin'. The new album will likely feature guest rhymes from Eminem , Lloyd Banks and Young Buck.
