Do you guys think Diana Ross needs to be inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist or do you think she's right where she is as member of the Supremes? Please respond.

If she's in with the group then why not give the slot to somebody else

If she's in with the group then why not give the slot to somebody else You know the odd thing about the Supremes being inducted, I'm hearing rumors, that Mary Wilson only wanted "the originals" on the certificates for induction, which according to the Hall of Fame apparently was okay (I mean one member of the Four Seasons is awkwardly not included with Frankie Valli and 'em in the HOF). But if she only wanted the originals, why rule out Barbara Martin? She was an original Supreme. And I find it disrespectful that neither Cindy nor Jean were inducted alongside them. It's like the Supremes story ended when Diane left the group in 1970. I find that more disrespectful than people saying Diane should be inducted solo (she's recognized enough IMHO).

You're right about Barbara ((Quick)), she should have been included ...I think that when certain honors are given to Diana as a solo artist the same honors should be given to the 70's Supremes simply for the fact that the group also entered second phase career wise...I wouldn't be surprised if Diana is inducted alone though seeing as her solo accomplishments overshadowed theirs and landed her in the world records as being the biggest female entertainer of the 20th century...that said however I do believe that being in R&R HOF just once is enough...

True. I mean she did well enough to get an induction (though I feel she is linked with Barbra Streisand as one of the "ladies of love".) Usually artists who generally do adult contemporary work don't get as much critical acclaim as the rocker or the soul artist or even the jazz and dance artists (which could explain Madonna and Donna Summer and Chic being nominated for inductions this year). It wouldn't have hurt on the Supremes front to have Barbara, Cindy and Jean and even put Lynda, Scherrie and Susaye in there too. I often feel the "original" original Supremes and the Supremes after Diana and Flo left tends to be overlooked. And yep, being in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is enough IMO.

That's another thing, they should have inducted Jean, Sherrie and Susaye too because they all contributed heavily to the 70's material but I'm always on the fence with Lynda because she wasn't even there for two minutes

You know what? I had to really think about this for the longest time and you know what? I do feel that like Michael Jackson, Diana Ross does needs her own place in the sun as a Hall of Fame inductee. She did break a lot of records in her solo career. I guess I was looking at it in terms of "impact" and stuff but Jann Wenner's choices for Hall of Fame inductees are weird. Diana had more influence and impact than some of the people in there to be honest. And if it seems like I'm turning into a Ross apologist... well I am.

No need to apologise ((Quick))...like I said before it wouldn't be a surprise if Diana was inducted by herself because she is Diana after all lol...but who else did Wenner choose btw

He chose: The Ronettes Grandmaster Flash & the Furious 5 (over the Dave Clark 5) Smokey Robinson (without the Miracles) Miles Davis (huh?) Madonna LOL, just off the top of my head.

IMHO, Diana got the respect she wanted when she got the Kennedy Center Honor so I'm very happy for her.

I disagree for one reason, her billing or titling as the most successful of the 20 century is heavily and I mean heavily rooted in being the lead singer on those Supremes number ones. True Michael's in twice, and his solo success just about overshadows that of the J5. Don't get me wrong, those were my li'l dudes, but let's face it, he owned and I mean owned the 80's and early 90s. I don't know any lead singer, including Smoke, that can say that. The Miracles should have been inducted, as the Miracles, just as the Supremes are inducted as the Supremes. Sure a case can be made for the success of SR & the Miracles, but the RRHOF should be voting and choosing on impact. That's why Miles is there, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five and the Ronettes and I can even see the choice of Madonna. And sure if you look at the writing credits, Smoke made that impact with others, but then that should be as a writer not a solo artist and he should have- oh I'll leave that alone. But back to Diana well the Supremes really, the originals shouldn't have been Mary's reasoning, I mean I like Meet the Supremes, not as much as Meet the Temptations, but Al's not inducted and who really knows if Dennis would have been inducted, though he should have, if Paul (RIP) was still here. Wow, guess that didn't work for Cindy though, but let's be real- she didn't sing on Reflections or Someday We'll Be Together, so what impact was made while she was in the group? And as for Jean, love her voice, very commercial, and far less irritating than Diana's, but the success wasn't matched and let's face it, the impact on the Soul or R&B charts are, were and will probably always be an afterthought, if that, to the supposed music critics or whatever they're calling themselves.
