Check this out: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holiday_(Madonna song) Mary Wilson was offered "Holiday" FIRST but she turned it down in turn giving the then unknown 24-year-old singer from Detroit by way of Manhattan, New York her first big hit! d**n... makes me wonder if there were any songs of Madonna that they tried to give either her or Diane and both of them turned it down giving Madonna a hit, lol. Her EARLY music WAS admittedly influenced by Motown and urban music in general though. You think Mary would've turned "Holiday" into a hit? I don't see it but how about y'all? [/IMG]
I remember reading that in Mary`s book. I`m not sure if Mary would have made it a hit.

I see... I think... It is one of those things that make you go hmmmmm I was watching a movie and one of the characters says "But that voice " Diana Ross' singling style and voice will make you draw a pause for sure I've read a view times, that we or most people, wouldn't have that feeling, if she'd moved to jazz instead of the ill-fitted compositions she'd moved to after the Supremes A li'l clearer

When I think jazz, I think, well I don't think Diana. I think, the real Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, you know, the list could go on

That's the thing, Diana may be able to sing Jazz but she isn't a Jazz singer ... She is more of an R&B Pop diva ...

And they'll continue to say it because her new album is a bunch of rock standards, lol. She's singing about love but singing mostly covers of pop songs from way back. It's gonna come out October 2 on EMI from what I hear.

Mary turned a song down, why The way I see it, her career couldn't have turned out any worse for the wear. You've gotta be kidding me; something reminding her of the hits; that's about sums up the Supremes' hits ... Wash, rinse, repeat ... What she was used to and like the saying goes - If it ain't broke ... I'm ROTFL @ her and Diana Ross turning down something in, what was this '84ish ... Turning anything down
