Thanks for prescribing the comments because it always cut out when I get to Flo saying "well now wait a minute, honey, give me a goal and I'll do my own shoppin' :getready: " I loved what she said tho. I find it funny that people make excuses (as did I once upon a time, lol, I was young and blind to it, lol) about why Diane got as far as she did. She was determined and driven but didn't have talent coming out of her butt. She reminds me of Smokey because of it: a marginal singer who got by due to one boss' push to bring them up no matter what the cost. Martha always said that Berry always made excuses for Diane because of his admiration of her so-called "drive" like to say Martha, Mary and 'em didn't or something. That's why I can't respect BG the way many do and that's why I can't respect Diane regardless of how much she's accomplished (and we should all be glad that she did achieve what many didn't think - getting an Oscar nod though I think she probably over-acted in a role that in a movie truly didn't fit the woman she was playing), I mean, it just looks funny. All blame SHOULDN'T be directed at ONE person, i.e. Diane, I agree with that, but I do think she and Berry are to blame for the success of the Supremes and its fallout soon afterwards. Also, I think the Supremes are overrated in terms of their legacy and their actual hit-making status. They peaked in 1967 after Flo left and got back strong enough to last 7 more years after Diane left. I have to say Diane was the beginning of the end for Motown. Berry put everything into one woman and Hollywood and eventually had his a$$ handed to him by Marvin, Stevie and the Jacksons (post 1975). Diane got hers after leaving Motown and then when she tried to come back, it all fell on her face here in America. Sure Diane can sell out a tour today but she can't get a record deal anymore because no one's interesting in an old marginal artist trying to recapture glory. She didn't do what Cher and Bette Midler and 'em did and that was maintain freshness in their career. Diane is a vintage artist from a time left long ago and all the respect she had gotten before Mary wrote the book and J. Randy T. wrote his about her has now all been giving (rightfully) to Florence and Martha.

((fanatgurl)) those girls really are beautiful aren't they Thanks for the updated link ((Classic)) ... Patricia was really upset...seemed to me she would have smacked Diana down had she been in the room Did you read the comments part? I read them. It's pathetic to see people who will defend Diane's tactics.

I was never a fan of the Supremes, but I always liked Florence Ballard. People can say what they will about lead singers getting jobs because they had the most talent; I really can't get behind that. Gordy put a lot of faith and money into that project (Diane) and he has admitted it was due to their involvement. That's why Diane got all of the backing and subsequently the Supremes. I won't say she had no talent at all, but in comparison to the others, in the Supremes and just at the label period, she fails or falters to measure up in any way- outside of determination. I can't say she was driven; driven people are overly talented or gifted, in more than their minds. I feel the same way. Thing is her fan's refuse to see past the BS and are continuously trying to argue how 'driven' she was prior to her relationship with Berry. The way I see it is she steadily worked her way up the corporate ladder - literally. From one of the Holland brothers to Smokey then on toward the jackpot - Berry. There is a difference between being driven and sleeping with the right people in order to get what you want!

That's because the respect for Flo and Martha are a couple of decades over due, and at long last a LOT of people have come to their senses! And the line is; "Well now wait a minute honey, give me that gold and I'll do my own shoppin' " :lady:

Did you read the comments part? I read them. It's pathetic to see people who will defend Diane's tactics. Gurl, one poster had the nerve to blame it on the media and said that the media hated Ross in the 80`s. And that Flo`s family never read Ross`s book someone from the press told them what Ross had said about Flo in her book.

There is a difference between being driven and sleeping with the right people in order to get what you want! Exactly she slept her way to the top. But guess what? She also had a tremendous fall. And another thing that pissed me off is when one of Miss Thang`s fans tried to compare Flo`s situation with Ross`s. This person had the nerve to say that people should also be sympathetic to Ross`s problems such as: failing career, having a drinking problem, being arrested, and divorced from her rich husband. Now ain`t that nothing?

Flo was such a WOMAN.

Yeah, karma hit on Miss Ross' Diane's a$$ hard. I'm sure people laugh at her now because of her appearances as of late. Remember that one time when she went to a movie theater and her hair was in such a disarray that it went all over (maybe because of the wind, lol) And then when she smiled... ugh! I'm afraid to ask the trick if she has ever thought of having surgery on those yellow dentures. :notgettingit:
