How is it possible to have a Motown reunion without Martha Reeves and the Vandellas? She was like the Foxy Brown to Lil' Kim of their day, but Diana Ross had things locked down with the Supremes.
The group, Martha and the Vandellas, is responsible for some of Motown's biggest hits like Love Is Like A Heatwave, Dancing In The Street, Jimmy Mack, Honey Chile, No Where To Run, No Where To Hide just to name a few.
The show aired on ABC Monday, May 17. But, the problem really wasn't in Martha receiving an invitation because she was there and actually did perform, but the network didn't air her performance. Strange, huh?
The worst part was that she was called in to perform while in the middle of doing a three-month, six-day-a-week tour in the UK.
Fans were quite upset over the fact that broadcasters pulled the plug on the performance at the last minute eliminating Reeves' performance all together. The Motown Alumni Association's inbox was filled with over 5,000 e-mails minutes after the nationwide broadcast, which addressed their disappointment of both the show, and the elimination of Reeves' performance.
I guess they thought they could add a few 'A list' Motowners on the show and karaoke their way through the rest ... they must take us fans as suckers ... and think that we will accept any ol' body to sing Motown music! said Billy Wilson president of the Motown Alumni Association. The MAA is the world's largest fan based source to Motown's alum.
Newer Motown veterans such as Brian McKnight and Michael McDonald substituted for the classics that were expected on the show.
