jimmy ruffin almost became a temptation, but he couldn't dance, but if he could dance, what impact do you think he would have with the temptations?

No impact, even if I had to go back and change time, David Ruffin would've still been a Temptation.

"It was between Jimmy and David, but Jimmy...He didn't fit us like David did..."You can't fool with fate I never read or heard anything about him not knowing how to dance, and why should that stop them from choosing him, they choose Otis and he never could and still can't dance. I can't see Jimmy as a Tempt in any way shape or form, but according to Eddie he was around after Al quit so, who knows I suppose had he filled in after Al left, he could have harmonized nicely, can't hear him as a lead with those voices, but David was the lead so again, who knows That's all I can come up with as an impact

David & Jimmy were two different singers, I think. The reason why David was chosen possibly was because he knew how to sing and dance at the same time. He never lost his footing when he sung and never lost his voice while grooving. He was a natural performer with a gifted ability and vocally he's one of the greatest singers, period, of all time. His "Walk Away From Love" is BREATHTAKING, he went in and out of falsetto like nothing. Plus he came from the church (Jimmy did too, lol). As Funk said, you can't fool with fate. Guess they didn't want TWO people with left feet, you get what I'm saying.

And by different do you mean one could and the other :teehee:
Well, I just think the guys (the Tempts) were meant to find each other, at that time. They were success bound-as a unit. I always loved David's voice and his energy, I just am dumbfounded that he wasn't as successful as he could have or should have been as a solo artist, or even as successful as another ex-bandmate. The material was lackluster, but so was a whole lot of artists at that time and any for that matter. Promotion wasn't, but even posthumously, he doesn't get the noise, exposure or cult following that other labelmates and artists of the era do.
But I'll stop there, this is Jimmy's board and I think he was meant to go it alone :iwannasing:

jimmy ruffin almost became a temptation, but he couldn't dance, but if he could dance, what impact do you think he would have with the temptations? Well Smokey Robinson has said he wrote My Girl particularly for David's voice, so there probably woudn't have been any major impact with Jimmy in the line up, because that was the song that gave them a huge push. And I can't really hear Jimmy singing it at all.

Yeah, (((Rainy))), I can't, either. The Temptations needed THAT VOICE and David PROVIDED it.

I don't think there would have been any impact with him attempting a lead position, but I think he would have fit in as a replacement for Otis because he was (and still is) a better singer that Otis
