We have been a little starved of concerts in the UK but we are getting a few great acts filtering through now. Last year I was lucky to win tickets to a private Lionel Richie concert for approx 500 folk at the Mermaid Theatre in London. It was amazing....he sang most of the Commodores back catalogue and his solo stuff and we were front row . His amazing band supported him plus a huge orchestra. This year I feel well blessed.........The Rev Al is coming over ...............off to see him at Birmingham Symphony Hall on 30th June.....2nd row AND the Tops/Temps at Birmingham N.I.A in November 3rd row :boogie: ........Yea.............Can't wait. Just wish Smokey would get his butt over here now...he did say last year on a radio interview that he would !!. Now THAT would be a dream come true. Cheers QS

Okay so I did go lol. I had to see Duke ;D I missed the bulk of Chris Clarke's set because we got there a tad late but from what I heard I wasn't really that impressed anyway. I think her back up singers sounded better than she did Maybe I should have been there from the beginning but oh well First up were Otis and his crew (thank God) and let's just say it was an experience being that close to them. GC has some good pipes on him I wouldn't say he ruined but he should re-group with The Spinners. Ron and Terry are a different story however You could say I was just peeved because of the straining and trying so hard to make it seem like they were on the original recordings. These guys don't even come close to the C5 and all the hoopla was very annoying. Not even halfway through I think the spirit of Ruffin took me over (don't laugh) because at the start of certain songs I started with the 'Where's Eddie Kendricks'....'Where's Paul Williams'...'Why Are They Singing This?? This Is Eddie's Song' The dude next to me must have thought I was crazy because he straight up turned his chair away and wouldn't even look at me They covered all of the C5 hits from what I remember though I did notice that they took Don't Look Back out of the set for some reason They also performed Papa, Treat Her Like A Lady and Stay. Then (at long last) came their finale with My Girl which is when I couldn't help but shout 'He Ain't No David Ruffin!' My sister was embarassed but hell if I cared I was just glad the Faketations were over Next up were the Mighty Tops and I made it a point that's who I was there to see. They opened with Baby I Need Your Loving then just took it from there - Bernadette, Ask The Lonely, Still Water, When She Was My Girl, Something About You, Walk Away Renee, Simple Game etc. They pretty much covered their whole career in that set and what I loved was before they even hit the stage they played the chorus to The Four Of Us and dedicated the show to Lawrence and Obie (unlike Otis who had Ron make up a big stink about him being the only one left *yawn*) and midway Duke introduced the guys and let the audience know who was filling in for whom (that's why I love this guy) without taking all the credit. But Ronnie and Theo had the people give it up for him because the man IS a living legend As you guys know Lawrence Jr was filling in for Obie and I'm telling you the boy is bad! He's really doing the legacy justice. You would think he was Obie's son though because he just had soooo much energy it was amazing. He and Ronnie took a few leads and were d*mn good too! My main man Theo took the bulk of the leads which is no secret, then had himself a solo spot with Always & Forever which left everybody eating outta his hands He can blow Lastly, awhile before finishing up Duke did dedicate a song to the Motowners they had lost (I wish I could remember which song it was ) which I found to be a lovely gesture and then to close their set what else were they gonna sing except for I Can't Help Myself?! The Tops are just wonderful and I would recommend anybody to see them if given the chance Hope ya'll don't mind my brief review - if you got a question just throw it my way

I take it you are by no means a fan of the current Temptations so I won't ask about them On the Four Tops, I must agree that Theo Peoples does a great job filling in Levi's place. I hope he sticks with them for a long time. Good read ((soulegend 1))
