Oh yes, I rather Marvin & the Vandellas too. And yeah, the Tempts, Spinners, Four Tops and Originals (especially them) backed him up real good. I think the Love Tones also backed him up a few times too. Marvin blended in real well with both female and male groups. With the females, he was the leading man, with the males, not only was he "one of the guys" but it's like you almost think he was in their group, lol. I mean, didn't Marvin sing background for the Originals on "Baby I'm For Real" and "The Bells"?

I know they did a lot of the ladies bgs too, but with the Tops it was like a fuller sound

Yeah, the ladies' backgrounds truly added something unique to Marvin's sound.

You know the only other male singer who had a great rapport with the ladies in background was Ray Charles and Marvin carried on that notion with his ladies in much the same way. With the Vandellas, they and Marvin had a certain chemistry that was OUT THERE, the Supremes not so much though they did sound good in "Witness" and "Wonderful One" but the Andantes and Marvin were just perfect in songs like "Little Darling I Need You", "Your Unchanging Love", "Too Busy Thinking...", "Mercy Mercy Me", etc. The Andantes were legendary for their background work on the Four Tops and Marvin especially. [/IMG]
Yeah, Martha and the Vandella's are my favorite choice personally because there is alot more raw energy and Martha's vocals are front and center.
Same here,Martha and the girls added that special touch.I love the combination.

I sometimes wish Marvin and Martha sung "It Takes Two".

Well call me a sore thumb because my least favourite pairing is Marv with the Vandella's. I don't have a problem listning to the songs at all but I like the blend of the Andantes just a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittle mo better Supremes are pretty much even because Flo and Marlene sound so much alike and Flo gets her shine on

:cheezy: But for real, I think that each of the female groups backing Marvin gave him a rare distinction in music. SOME male "heartthrobs" have tried to do it since like Mike "stealing-ass fool" Bolton and Freddie Jackson (remember "We're Gonna Jam Tonight"?) but they couldn't do it like Brotha Marv.

((Quick)) I don't even know how anybody could say the name Michael Bolton in the same sentence as Marvin Gaye ... for real ...Freddie could get down though
