Still photographer D. Stevens has signed on to direct “Marvin – The Life Story of Marvin Gaye,” a 40 million biopic from producer Duncan McGillivray due to begin filming later this year.
Roberta Flack will serve as music supervisor on the film, which plans to use 24 of the late music legend’s songs. Shooting will take place in Washington D.C., Detroit and Los Angeles, McGillivray tells the Hollywood Reporter.
"It's amazing that Marvin's story hasn't been told in its entirety in a big-budget feature film. We will be the first to do it," he said.
This is huge!
Aparrently this big budget film actually got the rights to 24 of Marvin's tunes. Hmmm I wonder if Jamie Foxx will star in this flick.
Also that's great that Roberta Flack will be overseeing the music of the film. I wonder if she'll sing an original new tribute song to him as well.

Yo, MPGFan, where you get the news from? Post the link. BUT THIS IS MORE LIKE IT! :woo: That must mean we'll get MARVIN GAYE from 1939 to 1984! You always come through, man! WOW, so ONE movie focused on Marvin's last years, and another focusing on the whole enchilada or at least until a certain point like the "Ali" film or something. Either way, thanks!!!! GO ROBERTA!!!!

$40 or $60 million is very steep ... not that Marvin isn't worth it...that's just a whole lot of money and I am eager to find out which 24 songs they were able to get rights to...could have been much more at those prices IMO ...thanks for the update ... oh and WHO do you all think should playMarvin??

It's hard but find an unknown actor that looks like young Marvin and then tried to build him up as Marvin throughout the years. That's what I would do. :teehee:

Remember who they chose and what they did to poor Frankie Lymon Who gives a rat's fanny about the women in his life; we learned little to nothing about the artist, writer and musician Don't get me wrong, Larenz is a pretty good actor, but playing a fourteen year old- he's a little short, but come on, don't insult my intelligence :bonk:

 The effin' nerve... :hmph: I wanted to punch whoever did this film in the mouth. We all knew about Frankie's bad sides (and that was a dumb choice to have a grown-ass man play Frankie when he was still a teen) but we didn't get to see more of the good sides. All because of the polygamy issues... :bonk:

Why Do Fools to me was one of those 'something ain't right but I just can't put my finger on it' moments :idunno: ...very weird to say the least...but whoever recommended Jamie for Marvin is kidding...nothing personal against hom of course, but it just ain't there for him to play Marv

Right. He just don't have the looks nor the charisma nor the vocals of Marvelous Marvin. :gentleman:
