The new Otis fiasco sparked yet another question for me - do you guys think that any of the replacements are really worthy of being billed in relation to the Temptations Dennis is the exception for me because his contribution to the group is quite obvious and helped them build up a very distinguished phase of their career but after Paul and Eddie are gone I feel that their replacements are just that - replacements not exactly Legendary Lead Singers of anything. IMO it's harder to remember the rotating members of the Tempts than the 70's Supremes

The real Temptations to me are these: 1.) Melvin Franklin 2.) Paul Williams 3.) Eddie Kendricks 4.) David Ruffin 5.) Eldridge "Al" Bryant 6.) Otis Williams 7.) Dennis Edwards 8.) Richard Street - since he went back with Otis & Melvin 9.) Ali-Ollie Woodson
Other than that, everyone else is just hangers-on IMO.

IMO The replacements who stand out the most after that particular time are Richard Street and Glenn Leonard.

I respect that, but I just don't feel the material they sang on or their voices are 'legendary' in comparison with Paul, Eddie, David or Dennis

THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THAT THE "REAL" TEMPTATIONS ARE THE SIX WHO WERE INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME BACK IN 1989. THEY ARE: MELVIN FRANKLIN, PAUL WILLIAMS, EDDIE KENDRICKS, DAVID RUFFIN, OTIS WILLIAMS & DENNIS EDWARDS. ONCE AGAIN, EVERYONE ELSE IS A REPLACEMENT. ALI-OLLIE WOODSON IS AN AMAZING LEAD SINGER WHEREAS RICHARD STREET IS NOT. IN FACT, HE'S A HORRIBLE SINGER. ALWAYS WILL BE. BUT YET, THEY'RE BOTH REPLACEMENTS. RON TYSON CAN'T SING EITHER.

After the members inducted the three most worthy of recognition are Richard, Ali and Glenn...I wouldn't say Richard has a horrible voice though lol..

I would, he sounded passable on Heavenly and Firefly, but so do I and though I love to sing, you won't catch me joining a legendary outfit or calling myself a lead singer. The Temptations were are and will always be: Paul Williams Eddie Kendricks Otis Williams Elbridge Bryant Melvin Franklin David Ruffin Dennis Edwards Though Dennis deserves to be considered a Tempt even if he is a replacement and to be inducted, David Ruffin is the most influential replacement Tempt, period. Strong voices or honorable mention are Ali-Ollie Woodson and Theo Peoples, that's about it for me

IMO it's harder to remember the rotating members of the Tempts than the 70's Supremes I remember them, although I wish I could forget! It's just way too many replacements to be effective. I haven't gone to many of their concerts, but in my younger days I went to a few. The magic was gone even then and we're talking 1977, 1978. For me, Dennis should be the only 'replacement'. At some point, if you're that profound, you should do something new. There is only one guy in that group now that should really consider himself a Temptation and that's Otis. Everyone else who made an impact left or is deceased. But then I guess after working for Berry Gordy, everyone still needs a gig, even now. Why not exploit the history-making legacy?
