May 19, 2006 Ex-Supreme Mary Wilson Having Heart Bypass Monday (AP) LAS VEGAS, Nv. Mary Wilson, founding member of the Motown group The Supremes, was hospitalized in Las Vegas Friday -- making plans for heart bypass surgery Monday. The TV show Entertainment Tonight reports the 62-year-old Wilson had a heart attack at her Las Vegas home Tuesday. Her publicist -- Jay Schwartz in Los Angeles -- says Wilson's in otherwise good health and is expected to make a full recovery following surgery. Wilson sang with Diana Ross in the 1960s trio -- and still performs about 150 concert dates a year. Lately, she's been leading a state-by-state fight to pass legislation to stop copycat groups from profiting from established musical acts. LINK

SUPREMES STAR RETURNS TO THE STAGE AFTER HEART SCARE Former THE SUPREMES star MARY WILSON terrifies her backing band every time she performs live - because they're convinced she'll die in front of them. The soul star avoided a heart attack by minutes last year (05) when a Mother's Day family meal at her home in Las Vegas, Nevada ended with an emergency trip to the hospital. She explains, "I had just done a gig in Arizona and I came home for Mother's Day; I was sitting down with my three grandchildren and my family, having some Japanese food and all of a sudden I couldn't breathe. "I thought it was heartburn. Eventually, it got so bad I told my daughter take me to the hospital and I went there and they said, 'Yes, you're close to having a heart attack.' "They found three arteries that were clogged and so we had to do something about that and we had three angioplasties." But fearless Wilson is back on the road, making her backing band's hearts skip a beat every night. She adds, "I have done about three gigs and I felt great. My band was so afraid that I was going to pass out on stage and I'm moving around, jumping around... Everything's fine." 27/07/2006 03:46 Contact Music
