...were one of the most accomplished Motown groups outside the US. In the UK for example, they had a lot of UK smash singles including TWO albums released over there that went to #1 in England (two of their greatest hits) while some others actually hit the top 10.
IN FACT... TWELVE FOUR TOPS HIT THE TOP 10 ON THE UK POP CHARTS BETWEEN 1966 and 1989!!! From "I Can't Help Myself" to "Loco in Acapulco"! They also scored their biggest UK hit during their Motown period ("Reach Out" reached #1 there in '66) and after ("When She Was My Girl" reached #3 there in '81).
They also outsold the Temptations there (who were known as the Norman Whitfield Singers after Dennis Edwards joined them).
That's what I call BLACK POWER overseas! :boygroup4:

Yeah, they were. It's actually true tho that they DID call the Tempts the Norman Whitfield Singers over there. Apparently the Temptations didn't get really noticed in the UK until MUCH later than the Tops, which I found...odd. Then again I'm not surprised. Even with the success at home, Motown wasn't really trusting the Tempts with much. I can say the same for the Tops but they managed to get the Britons to dig their marvelous sound.
