Temptations with Paul Williams on lead Really? I would have guessed Stevie. But that proves why these threads are so useful lol

I don't know who did the 5th version BUT I do know Stevie's was the only one that became a big hit. But Paul RIPPED it tho.

We may be onto something here ... I wanna track down that 5th artist :boogie:

LOL - I stand corrected; it pays to research rather than go by memory! 1- Barbara McNair on her Here I Am LP released on Motown in 11/1966 2- Four Tops on their On Broadway LP released on Motown in 1/1967 3- Temptations on their In a Mellow Mood LP released on Gordy in 11/1967 4-Diana Ross & the Supremes and the Temptations on their T.C.B. Soundtrack released on Motown in 12/2/1968 ( Technically another artist, actually still the Temptations )5- Stevie Wonder on his For Once In My Life LP released on Tamla in 12/1968 6- Soupy Sales on his Bag of Soup LP on Motown released in 4/1969 7- Smokey Robinon & the Miracles on their Time Out for Smokey Robinson & the Miracles LP released on Tamla in 7/1969 8- Sammy Davis, Jr on his Something for Everyone LP on Motown released in 5/1970 9- KiKi Dee on her Great Expectations LP released on Motown in 7/1970 10- Gladys Knight and the Pips on their Neither One of Us LP released on Soul in 2/1973 Wasn't sure if the Barbara McNair LP was released, but I have found on a few sites and in a few discographies that it was indeed released in 1966. The first recording crown goes to Ms. McNair, then the Four Tops, then the Temptations! And as Quick pointed out, Stevie made it a hit, but big Paul's was emotionally-charged! Looks like the thread title is misleading
