...originally going to be given to The Originals in Marvin's request but his collaborators Al Clevland and Renaldo Benson (of the 4 Tops) said the song was for him, he agreed and the rest is music history.

You know the songs Marvin had done with the Originals, the ones that became hits, that really was the predecent of what "What's Going On" became.

Oh and the 4 Tops rejected to do the song also. Funny how when one act turned a song down it was something big for another. But I would say in this scenario it all really worked out didn't it
