Calif. Authorities Seize 800 Pounds of Pot By Associated Press Sat Jul 16, 6:49 AM
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Authorities found nearly 800 pounds of marijuana in a wooded ravine and arrested an armed man accused of guarding the crop.
The marijuana, grown on an acre of public land owned by the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency, had an estimated street value of up to $2.4 million, Ventura County Sheriff's Sgt. Bret Uhlich said Friday.
Servondo Villa, 22, was booked on suspicion of illegal cultivation of marijuana and being armed during commission of a felony. He was being held on $90,000 bail.
The marijuana was spotted by the Sheriff's Department's helicopter unit during a routine inspection. It was in the same spot where 760 pot plants were found in 2003.
The 5- and 6-foot-tall marijuana plants will be buried in a landfill, police said.
