"MICHAEL JACKSON: MAN BEHIND THE MASK" # 1 BEST SELLER
Michael Jackson's ex-publicist Bob Jones creates insight on the world of Jackson with new book
Michael Jackson has been one of the world's most recognized Pop stars for over 30 years. Bob Jones was the publicist for Motown records in the early 70's, and had become Michael Jackson's exclusive publicist for nearly two decades. After Jackson left Motown, Jackson hired Jones, and who in return was responsible for coining the phrase "King Of Pop" for the gloved wonder.
In the wave of all the controversy with Michael's trial, and years of personal issues, Jones was unceremoniously released as Jackson's longtime publicist, and executive for MJJ Productions.
Bob Jones with co-writer, and Jackson family friend Stacy Brown has come out with a book that gives credence to Jackson's world. Their book "Michael Jackson: Man Behind The Mask" has jumped from 108 to # 1 on the Barnes & Noble's best seller book charts.
"Jones was very good at protecting Jackson", said Billy WIlson of the Motown Alumni Association. "When I first called Jones a couple of years ago, he never divulged anything that's in the book; we've become good acquaintances sense our first conversation, he was very much a "corporate" man ... meaning, Michael Jackson's personal life stayed personal ... Jones never told anything to harm his client" said Wilson. It was reported that Jackson would make employee's sign a "non-disclosure" agreement, but Jones didn't have such an agreement.
"Man Behind The Mask" is a behind the scene perspective from someone that was closer to the King Of Pop than anyone outside of his immediate family. Jackson has been under the gun with court issues, rumors, and accusation for years, but this book could damage the pristine views the Jackson camp has been trying to up hold on the Pop King.
Though Jackson's camp has been trying to maintain some sort of dignity through all of the damaging information the media has been spreading, it's clear that there are issues that need to be cleared up with the "King of Pop" and the "King of Publicists".
Jones was called into court during the most recent child molesting case that he (Jackson) was acquitted for; Jones, who was called in to testify against Jackson, served more as an allie than an enemy of Jackson. Jones has stated that he wouldn't lie for Jackson, in return Jones testimony done little to help the prosecution. Rumor has it that Jones may be doing a college lecture circuit in the near months to come.
