Check this out: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holiday_(Madonna song) Mary Wilson was offered "Holiday" FIRST but she turned it down in turn giving the then unknown 24-year-old singer from Detroit by way of Manhattan, New York her first big hit! d**n... makes me wonder if there were any songs of Madonna that they tried to give either her or Diane and both of them turned it down giving Madonna a hit, lol. Her EARLY music WAS admittedly influenced by Motown and urban music in general though. You think Mary would've turned "Holiday" into a hit? I don't see it but how about y'all?

I read that in one of her books and iun think it would have been a hit for her. She said she turned it down because it reminded her of the early Supreme songs where she was just doing backup with a few words.
Never been a fan of Madonna or that kinda trash she calls music but, Mary just didn't have the kind of energy that the song needed.

The song, "Holiday", was produced by the same guy who did Stephanie Mills' "I Never Knew Love Like This Before".

Mary does have a smokey type of voice, but if done properly she might have pulled it off.

To be honest, I don't know what would fit Mary as a soloist. :scratchhead: I'm sure she'll probably found her way as a jazz vocalist but then again... :scratchhead: lol

Alot of people that have gone to Mary's shows over the years have said they are very Jazz inspired ... given her vocal style, I think this is the perfect direction for her ...Diana should stick with her pop route

That's where they say Diana should've gone, maybe Mary's more suited for jazz than Diane... she does have a smoky voice so it'll be good for jazz. Maybe, but some folks say or have written that Diana was better suited or at home with jazz; not more suited than anyone in particular, just more suited
