BINGO, (((Rainy)))! TOO much talent, man... TOO MUCH!
And it was always that Abrams guy or Mickey Stevenson that got most of 'em going. When they left, Berry let the label dwindle. Simple as that.

Both of you are right ... he had all that talent but not enough sense to maybe hand over certain PR stuff to family members or even small teams of people ...

Exactly. Maybe he shouldn't let a 19-year-old kid tell him he can run a company. Berry & Smokey treated Motown artists like dirt, I think. Look at how dirty Smoke did to the Marvelettes' name.

Remember it was also Mable John's idea for Berry to start up a label

Oh yeah, that's right. Thanks for the addition. Though Smokey seems "obliged" to think he was THE one to mention it from the Cathy Hughes interview he did. He didn't even mention Ms. John.

Good call ... Miss John is not credited even half as much as Smokey

YEP...and that's a problem. I'll NOW forever credit Mable John for getting the label going. I think she should do like that Lydia Harris woman from Death Row and demand to get 45% ownership of the label for even giving Berry the idea. Or is it too late now that Berry sold the whole thing to Universal?

To cut a long story short, I think she would have been a nicer boss

Too bad nobody made that suggestion to her then ((Quick)) ... but her primary goal was her recording career and not how much dollars she could make off of other people :teehee: ... I do agree with ((Kay)) however, if she did stick around perhaps we wouldn't here so many lawsuit stories

Lawsuits were part of the downfall of Motown because it exposed Berry and Smokey. Con artists... :frustration:
