Sometimes i wonder how the miracles would've sounded without pete cause he was like the laid back kinda person in the group, but im just curious what impact would they have without him? what y'all think?

He was the bass! Every great Soul group had one so we gotta have Pete What would Doggone Right sound like without him?! lol

In some sense you're right, but without pete, the group's sound would sound more rich like on songs like "whatever makes you happy, a love she can count on", and most of the early day material.

I think they would have managed to have the same impact regardless, mainly because Smokey was the primary focus. Not that Pete shouldn't have been there, but Smokey was the one producing, writing (mainly with Ronnie more than the other members) not to mention he was the lead singer.

As far as the group's sound is concerned, I think Pete's voice did help to give them a rich sound, just on later material

Every group needs a bass! Temptations, the Tops, Miracles, etc. Even the Supremes! (For the Supremes, their "bass" was Florence).
For guy groups, not having a bass made the sound to pop. For girls, without a "bass", or a deep-voiced singer, like Florence, the resonance (of the backups) would be too nasaly, and there were too many black girl groups with that sound, which is one reason why the Supremes were so unique.

I don't know ((Ant)) but I would say Mary delievered the lower tones more so than Florence ...but on topic the Miracles without Pete no way... I think of all the male groups the Miracles were lucky to have Pete's voice in addition to Bobby's because I think their sound was the most crossover orientated having Smokey lead, then Claudette sweetening out the background...I agree with ((Rainy)) though, I don't think the overall richness kicked in until around 65ish...
