Marvin's finest post '60s album, IMHO, I think it fits him more. Here's a track listing and this is one you can truly put on a let it go or let go 1. Let's Get It On 2. Please Stay (Once You Go Away) 3. It I Should Die Tonight 4. Keep Getting' It On 5. Come Get To This 6. Distant Lover 7. You Sure Love To Ball 8. Just To Keep You Satisfied I'm confident enough to say, this is the greatest album of Marvin's, no dis to What's Going On or I Want You, but this one gets my vote every time. What do you all think of this great album?

I agree! Something about that whole album soothes the soul. Matter of fact, not only was the album a great concept album, critics totally missed the point with Let's Get It On. I feel Marvin was still dabbling in socially conscious material, it was just on the matter that loving was better than warring. He was spreading his own "summer of love" for 1973. I have to say my all time favorite MG tracks are on this album. Besides "Let's Get It On", "If I Should Die Tonight", "Come Get to This", "Distant Lover" and "Just to Keep You Satisfied" composed some of the best material Marvin ever done. I still repeat "Just to Keep You Satisfied" like crazy and the majesty of the horns, the power of Marvin's vocals, the resigned force of the Originals backing him up in a classical-meshed, jazz-linked, doo-wop, soulful style was truly to behold. Strings, bass, a simple sax, four background men, and one man controlling its production vocally and musically, this track shocked me when I first heard it. Like many state this was the "original" quiet storm LP, though they give all the credit to Smokey for some odd reason. This was also one of Marvin's most funkiest albums. I mean, think about it, Marvin had changed his style after "What's Going On" adding his hat, a piercing and wearing jean outfits, he defined a generation with this album. I also thank Ed Townsend for helping Marvin find that spark with the first four tracks and for Marvin himself to put the tracks he had worked on before "What's Going On" on this, that just made the album more special for me. I also have to say this, without this album, Smokey wouldn't have found inspiration to create a hit song again (without "Let's Get It On" the album, would "Quiet Storm" the song had exist anyway?), Barry White's similar operatic soul wouldn't have crossed over (as it did after this album's release) and many of today's so-called R&B lover men wouldn't have professed their love as deep as Marvin did. That's why he's a trendsetter and trailblazer.

I could never get why some folks preferred I Want You but after I while I got it - It's much more personal whereas Let's Get It On is straight up freaky! But long story short I'm stuck between 'em both so I don't know if I can agree that it's his best of the three you just mentioned lol

People do tend to put him in that Quiet Storm box all on his lonesome for some reason

LOL, I can see why it could be out of place because lyrically the song didn't match anything else on the album, also mood-wise, it was a weird way to end what was mostly a sexually-arousing album if you don't count in "Distant Lover" and "If I Should Die Tonight".
But yeah, WHY oh WHY are people crediting Smokey for ANYTHING? I mean, Smokey's supposedly the king of the quiet storm yet Marvin, Isaac, Al and Barry were doing "quiet storm" before it became that? GET OUT OF HERE!
Plus "Let's Get It On", if I'm not mistaken, was the first album to give most of its attention to "the slow jam". Even "Satisfied" is a slow jam cut (which can explain why I think it probably fits).
And yes "I Want You" is a DEEPLY PERSONAL recording. It was originally a Leon Ware album but hearing Marvin's impassioned vocals, you wouldn't think so! LOL
But I do agree that "Let's Get It On", the album, is and will remain one of his most defining moments.

What do I think of this great album? Classic!... I was so happy when they reissued this album on CD but I must admit I was even happier when they decided to release the deluxe because every time I played the original album I had to make it play through twice because for me it just wasn't long enough... so Marvin is a tease with this one in my book ... but isn't that the sign of a good artist to always leave them wanting more...If I were forced to pick one favorite track it would be If I Should Die Tonight hands down because his vocals nailed it!

Yeah he's the "credit KING" alright, he's the king of taking too much credit for what was a collaborative effort.

Well I throw my two abes in on this one I love this album, it really is a mood setter, but I wouldn't go so far as to say this is his greatest or best In fact, I rank it 3rd in the trifecta of great ones, 1st being IWY and 2nd is WGO. But having 3 of the greatest albums ever is nothing to sneeze at. I do listen to LGIO for the soothing sexiness of it all. Even JTKYS ((Kay)) Marvin is pouring his heart out on this one "I stood all the jealousy and all the b*tchin' too But I forget it all, once in bed with you"You gotta feel Marvin as much as he's feeling his lady in this one! But my favorite is Come Get To This, sounds like he says I want to do something freaky to you

You know every other day, my feeling on what's Marvin's best album always changes. One day it's What's Going On, another day it's Let's Get It On, another and maybe two weeks it's I Want You, another day, it's Here, My Dear, but now I have to say "In Our Lifetime" is a good contender for the best album he ever done. Marvin was creatively non-stop between 1971 and 1981, can you blame him? Either album could be his best.

Yep I say it fit too, there's a mixture of dance songs ("Let's Get It On" has that beat that makes you wanna groove) and ballads and it also provided a mixture of doo-wop, soul and funk, it was so cool! And yeah he is saying "I wanna do something freaky to you" in "Come Get to This", thought ya knew.
