Wow... even the rock guys respect Marvin's genius! :jammin:
This is from Eurweb:
A cover version of Marvin Gaye's "Mercy, Mercy Me" has been recorded by rock band the Strokes along with Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder. Vedder apparently shares vocals with Julian Casablancas on the track, while Homme plays drums alongside Fab Moretti, reports Billboard. The track is due to appear on the Strokes' forthcoming album.
 They know good music when they hear it!

LOL, I always have that problem with covers. But AT THE SAME TIME, I appreciate that people know the real deal because regardless of their covers, it just makes the original 10 times better!
Just like "What's Going On", the R. Kelly-ized version of "Let's Get It On", etc. There was some unknown R&B singer from the early-'90s who actually did a cover of "Mercy, Mercy Me" around 1990, '91. I saw the video of it and it showcased Marvin performing at the Apollo, lol.
I didn't know those many people covered that song.

Milira is who you're thinking of ((Quick)) She had a little chance to shine. She had a powerful, beautiful voice, she also covered "In the Rain" by the Dramatics. I think she just didn't fit into the hoochie or princess mold that was happening, no one took the time to market or promote her. Such is the fickle music game

Thanks, Cleo. Yeah, Milira... wasn't she recording with Motown at the time? I swear I heard a song by hers that was a hit for her before her cover of "Mercy"... :whoknows:

I think I saw on Music Choice they were playing a song on the Smooth R&B channel and it had her name and then on one of the artist facts they had, it said "she signed to Motown in '88" or something.
