((Fantagurl)) I still can't sit through The Wiz, I would say it was actuallycompla a good movie overall but Diana's acting was the main problem. As well as being too old she just could not act....It's very painful to watch her performance. I think had everything else stayed the same with a different actress as Dorothy we wouldn't complain That`s true. I guess when they didn`t cast Stephanie Mills as Dorothy, I disliked the whole movie. I actually enjoyed it before hearing about Stephanie Mills and how she was the original Dorothy and how Motown and Diane got their ways in more ways than one (than playing the blame game on each other when the movie tanked). Now I can't stand watching it. The only really good thing that came out of it was... QUINCY JONES HOOKING UP WITH MICHAEL JACKSON TO DO HIS SOLO ALBUM!

You know what...when you force feed somebody for a long time eventually they swallow every piece without putting up a fight and I think thats what the mainstream done to the public where Motown was concerned. Yes Smokey made a suggestion and yes Berry followed through but you guys are so right because they do recieve too much credit. Even today there are some folks out there who believe as if these two made every single song what it was. To me during the golden period Motown had the greatest talent in the world (with the exception of some other artists respectively )....But those songs without those particular, Singers, Musicians, Arrangers and Producers wouldn't have been anything. Smokey may have written good songs but they would have been just that...good and not Great. If Mary Wells and the Temptations never existed would My Guy or My Girl be what they were or even come into existance Hell Too many Beautiful people are forgotten when it comes to Motown...But all we core fans can do is honor them as we do now by demanding their music from the vaults so that their hard work hasn't been in vain and so that each legacy is preserved

After watching "Standing In The Shadows of Motown,I realized that all the gifted songwriters, musicians, and the artist did not receive their just do.Look at the way Motown treated HDH(Holland,Dozier,Holland) all those dynamic songs they wrote and produced for the artist that became number one hits. After their departure from Motown, the machine started to diminish a little.

Yeah I knew that Smoke encouraged him. I just don't understand why he's get all this hoopla, he didn't really do anything except tell people what to do to further him and in the way, he stepped on "little people" to get to what he got, you know? Honestly, I believe Smokey is getting too much credit, for making a suggestion. It wasn't like he had it as a forethought either, it was from losing out on money. Nothing innovative, just reacting. Now if he'd had the forethought; which when you think about it, he should have- there weren't many Black-owned record labels, why not think of that BEFORE not making as much money. Any peebrain would know that. Yet here he comes, after they see how much money the labels were making off of the records, stating the obvious. Just an afterthought. He can receive credit as being there in the beginnings of the magic, co-writing and co-producing tracks (if that), but all of this, he's the man, without him, gahbage........ Please, tell it to someone else; the folks who buy stuff sight unseen. ((funksister)) the one's who deserve the most credit are the ones who worked hard to make thier dreams come true. With Smokey most of his best songs were co written with somebody else anyway, and for all we know he may have come in when a song was finished and done a little bit of tweaking then slapped his name on it ala Berry Gordy. I admire alot of the other artists because they put up with alot of things that newer artists will never have to.

A lot of the artist back then were being taking advantage of due to there lack of knowing the business(that`s why Berry and Motown had them to sign those shady contracts). Now days most of the artists learn and pay close attention to the business. You even have some who manage their own money(which is a good idea) because they don`t trust anyone handling their accounts.

(I better register eh?)
Anywho I hope this movie has some redeeming qualities. I've never even heard of Lauren Goodman til now. Too bad this is an indie production. I think a guy like Anthony Hopkins would make a fantastic Freddie Coeurset (sp I probably mangled his last name)
As for the other stuff in this thread, all i'll say is that the musicians that made Motown what it was never got the due they deserved.
