The movie just came out here on the 2nd and I went to see it and liked it for what it was, they just didn't do much to hide the inspiration lol and that lil MJ wannabe kid was WACK as all hell The most interesting thing regarding the movie is the fact that Dilema said she enjoyed it. I just read an interview with Sheryl Lee Ralph and she said back in the day when she met with her she was as cold as ice, even Beyawnce said meeting her recently was awkward but Dilema's new reaction brings me to this question - do you all think she was really taken advantage of by Gordy in some way

In some way, now looking back, in a way... yes. Yeah she had a side that wanted the fame (like Deena did) but I think Berry played all the girls foul, Diane included.

And yes, that Jackson 5 scene was hilarious!

not only that lame jackson5 scene wasn't called 4, but there's a scene in the movie where the girls were posing on 1 of the original supremes album covers and wore the same exact wardrobe as on the album cover. so really the movie was a musical bout motown n the supremes!

Well I think the only reason why its like that was because everyone has put in enough nonsense about it being about the Supremes, that I guess as a joke, they made the albums and some costumes the same. But a WHOOLE lotta damage that probly has done. The Broadway musical didn't have those costumes and albums.

That's why I asked, because I know once she left Motown and by the time she went back she set up all those companies to 'protect her interests'. She got the fame but didn't like the bonus she recieved, go figure. If anything the whole Supremes drama serves as a lesson and a half!

I think that once she left Motown, she realized it wasn't as easy to get by as it was when she was with Motown. Now she would know somewhat of what other artists, like Brenda Holloway and Mary Wells, would go through ... all though not NEARLY as dramatic of a downfall.

I also noticed one scene where Deena & them were performing on a TV special & I was quickly reminding myself of the Supremes' performance of "Love Child" on Ed Sullivan.

Bingo! As soon as I saw that, I just laughed to myself and wondered if anyone else saw the similarity.

I also caught Curtis (Jamie) saying to Deena (Beyonce) when Curtis put her in that "Cleopatra" movie and Curtis said "I wanted you to play this not some heroin junkie maid..." Reminded me of Berry telling people associated with "Lady Sings the Blues" that he didn't want Diane to play Billie Holiday saying to them "I don't want Diana to play some black junkie singer" until he was eventually convinced.

Personally, I still think there could have been a better choice for Billie than Diane. But she did it well. Also, at the beginning, did you notice how the announcer said "the curatious Primettes!" and I was likie, "Ohh there you go!" - Not even 5 minutes into the movie, and already they make a joke about the Supremes! LOL

Yeah i got all of that too ya'll lol
And Deena stated that she was too old to play Cleopatra - reverse it for a hot second and remember Berry thought Diana was too old to play Dorothy in the Wiz
They wrapped up saga's from her biggest films into one lol

I didn't care for the movie, even with the laughable Motown similarities The play was infinitely better than this movie and I was very disappointed in how well the movie version of Chicago was in comparison to this The inclusion of Motown, too much Motown was over done and too obvious This movie will lead people, most at least, to believe this to be the story of Motown and the Supremes
The Five Heartbeats was more comparable to Motown than this Jen did well as did Eddie, I was disappointed in Jamie's performance and I pratically missed Beyonce Is it just me or does no one mention the actress that played Lorrell, she was comical at times
I'm shocked this movie was nominated for best movie globes and oscars
Taking the movie for what it was, I forget the terminology, but the play-turned movie script could have stayed more consistent with the orginal play

You got a point, because they certainly Motown-ized Dreamgirls alot. For whatever reason they did this though, it certainly appealed to many people! lo. Personally I LOVED the movie, and the only thought was too vague was the ending ... I wanted to see what would happen after Curtis found out about Magic.
