When Jimmy was singing "Fake My Way to the Top" to the Dreamettes, did you notice the man in the purple suit, i think it was, that took Jimmy's place at the piano? I don't know if it was just me, but he looks MUCH like Marvin Gaye!

HE SURE DID!!! I was like when I saw that! I was talking about the movie and how Jimmy was much like Marvin, and someone said that it reminded them of how Marvin and Mickey Stevenson was helping Martha & the Vandellas with "Dancing in the Street". But Jimmy was also playing like Marvin at the piano. Remember that '60s photo of Marvin singing while playing the piano, he reminded me of that picture, lol.

Yes, I saw that!! I think that's the most funny part about the movie for me ... I wonder if they did that on purpose to see if people would recognize him. As soon as I saw him, I just knew there was something fishy with all these inside jokes ...

HAHAHA I can see it! For every Motown referrence they have in that movie, a little blurb would come up with that referrence. ( I guess the movie would be FILLED with blurbs! lol)

Exactly, that's why the reviews were the way they were. They had MOTOWN but, they say, it didn't have a lot of "realness" to it (but it was adapted from a Broadway play, how could it had? LOL).

Yes, indeed! I think, nonetheless, people should just enjoy it for what it is. Comparing it to Motown will, of course, make it less enjoyable, cuz ur trying to find things that aren't necessarily supposed to be there. But anyways, aside from the Motown referrences, that movie did its own thang!

I guess I side with (((Cleo))) 'cause I saw TOO MANY. I couldn't just ignore it. Like the late great Gerald LeVert said, it's written all over its face.

Indeed lol ... For a great Motown fan, its impossible for one to notice the bazillions of Motown refs.

Yhea, unfortunately, that's a disadvantage to having Motown refs, but not shoiwng the Motown sound.

Indeed ... I think their story is the most sensitive and hardest story to be able to project on film.
