First Wives Club gets Motown treatment Friday, May 25, 2007
The First Wives Club has been named as the latest Hollywood film to get the Broadway musical treatment.
The musical version of the 1996 comedy, which starred Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and Diane Keaton as a trio of divorced women who decide to get back at their ex-husbands, is expected to hit the New York stage early next year.
A host of A-list actresses are already being approached. Names in the hat so far include Olivia Newton-John, Stockard Channing, Megan Mullally, Bernadette Peters and Queen Latifah - who is rumoured to be interested in stepping into Goldie Hawn's shoes.
Hit Motown songwriters and producers Eddie and Brian Holland and Lamont Dozier, who are responsible for hits including Stop! In The Name Of Love, Heat Wave and You Keep Me Hangin' On, are set to reunite for the first time in over a decade to work on the musical adaptation.
"We're going to be doing all new material," confirmed Brian, while Eddie added: "It's amazing... almost like we never left each other. The chemistry is unbelievable."

When you work with folks as closely as these guys did, they're not just gonna lose that connection are they. But the most interesting thing for me in this article is about the Queen
