What's your name? MotownKU
Where're you from? Kansas (outside KC)
Birthdate (Month and Day) or age: 34
Why I love Motown: Grew up on it. My father's albums from Smokey Robinson and the Miracles to Marvin Gaye left an indellible impression on me -- to this day. It's the greatest music ever made in America.
If I can recall, the first time I heard a Motown song...
Everytime I hear that Motown Sound: I smile. It takes me back to when I was about 7 or 8 (1977-78) playing my dad's albums, memorizing the lyrics, etc.. while he was at work. Great memories for me. Great music.
Favorite Motown Artists: Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, Diana Ross, the Temptations (w/ the incomparable David Ruffin), the Four Tops, and the Jackson Five. Although I like others not so well known such as Brenda Holloway.
Favorite Motown Songs: Marvin Gaye -- God Is Love. Makes me cry each time I hear it.

Somehow my response was combined with others. Anyway, I'll summarize. I'd rather not give my name, but, I am glad to have found this site. I am a 33 year old from the Kansas side of Metropolitan Kansas City area. I absolutely love Motown (1958-1970's). It was the music I heard throughout my childhood (via albums played by my father, who obviously lived through the Motown era while in college). When my parents were at work, or somehow predisposed, I learned how to operate the record player at a young age (6 years old), and would play the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, and Temptations until I was discovered in the act. It was then when my father decided to formally introduce me into this musical treasure. What a blessing! Ensconced in the greatness of the Motown era as a young child, I have not forgotten the history lessons -- much less the music and artists. I have many songs that I consider favorites, from the Temptations -- "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep"; "Since I Lost My Baby"; and "You're My Everything"; to the Supremes -- "Reflections"; "Mother You, Smother You"; "Whisper You Love Me, Boy"; "I Hear a Symphony"; to Marvin Gaye's -- "What's Going On"; "Distant Lover"; and " Just to Keep You Satisfied". There are many more that I love -- David Ruffin's "My Whole World Had Ended"; Stevie Wonder's "Somewhere Out of the Blue"; the Four Tops "Bernadette" and countless, countless others. However, Marvin Gaye's "God is Love" (the slower version I have on 45) is soulfully spirited. It makes me cry each time I hear it. Marvin touches me in a special way, and that song touches me the most. The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and the Temptations (w/David Ruffin as a member) are my favorites; however, my wife recently purchased for me a CD compilation of Motown artists from 1958-1971. I am discovering artists and songs I had never known. I am so glad I found this site. I now have an outlet for one of my most favorite hobbies -- MOTOWN!

Hello and welcome to Motown Forever ((MotownKU)) Thank you for sharing your story with us, we're glad to have you here! All of those artists and songs you have mentioned are definitely among my faves too! I grew up mostly hearing The Psychadelic Tempts, Diana, Smokey and Marvin, but recently (in the last few years) I've started to look more into the not so popular artists and I'm enjoying every minute of it! Anywho, lol.....I'm glad that you've joined us and I hope you stick around and enjoy yourself! BTW, I fixed your post for ya!
