Yeah, the Temptations were given a chance to record the song but because they were on tour on the Motown Revue, Berry found the Contours and they recorded it instead. Yeah, Paul would've tore it up and Melvin on that bass line, oh of course! But for some odd reason, I'm glad the Temptations didn't take the song. Which is kinda harsh because I knew they were "hitless" for a number of years before David Ruffin came on the scene and I know Paul Williams was a genius at what he did. He seems to be disregarded most of the time because he wasn't as romantic as Eddie or David or rambunctious as Dennis but his vocals were FONKY regardless.

Paul Williams would have been all over this one ... I can tell the song was tailored for his voice.
