I'm listening to the Tops a bit this morning and I was just noticing, I can always clearly hear Duke's voice in the harmonies. I know he's the high tenor, but I'm just floored I pulled out a greatest hits cd to do some housework to and Duke is singing his heart out on just about all of these songs I actually listened to (in between loads). Very reminiscent of say, Paul and Flo, with their voices in the backgrounds. Impressive work and talent - Loves the Tops :yeahbaby:

Yeah, I can hear Duke real well on some of the songs I've heard from the group. He stood out in that fashion as did Renaldo and Levi and Laurence. The Four Tops were truly a VOCAL group! :boygroup4:

But, of course And true of the other guys, but my man Duke, he's the voice up there and the voice up there with the Andantes. Amazing is all I can say. And Motown had quite a few groups with lead singers making the backgrounds; think I have a new thread idea

Yeah I always noticed that as well. Even when they would perform on Ed Sullivan Duke's voice was right there holding it all together

I must agree Duke, with that voice and I think it's the way he carried himself, reminds me of a bad boy

Another thread that completely bypassed me ... I don't have a favorite in this group because I'm in love with the whole package, but I will give respect where it is due because Duke's voice is still one hell of an instrument after all these years ... and it doesn't hurt that he's still the bearer of the torch ... gotta love the man
