OLYMPIA, Wash. - Police have arrested an 80-year-old man for investigation of selling crack and methamphetamine from his home. Calvin D. Ott was released on $10,000 bail Thursday. He was arrested Wednesday after police searched his home with a warrant and found pill bottles loaded with crack and crystal meth, said Olympia police Detective Sam Costello.
Ott wasn't home during the search and was arrested hours later on a routine traffic stop, Costello said. He was booked for investigation of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. Police said Friday they were awaiting a decision from the county prosecutor on whether to press formal charges.
Police were first drawn to Ott's home after he reported a burglary at his home. He told police Tuesday that he was assaulted and that several of his things had been stolen.
Costello said that during that investigation, police talked to people who told them about Ott's alleged drug transactions.
Police now think that he was ripped off by someone he knew through the drug business, Costello said.
"Unfortunately, he's been involved in a lot of different criminal activity for a long period of time," he said. "He has less ability to protect himself now from the younger drug crowd, and they're kind of taking advantage of him and stealing his things."
Costello said Ott is not cooperating with the burglary investigation.
"He may actually be the victim of a crime but he's not participating enough in the investigation for us to be able to solve it," he said.
Police said that Ott was arrested in Lacey last August and accused of selling meth to a police informant. He was charged in Thurston County Superior Court and the case has yet to come to trial.
