HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA - Former model, reality TV star and media personality Anna Nicole Smith was pronounced dead after arriving to Memorial Hospital in Hollywood, Florida after reportedly collapsing in her hotel room there. Smith, 39, was unresponsive to medical attention and was reportedly dead on arrival. The cause of her death is yet to be determined.
Born Vickie Lynn Hogan on November 28, 1967 in Houston, Texas, she grew up with family relatives in local Mexia, Texas with her aunts, uncle and cousins. She had dreams of becoming the next Marilyn Monroe and seemed to be on her way after landing a spot as a Playboy Playmate in 1992. Renamed Anna Nicole by her publicist and retaining her married name Smith after a failed marriage, she became the first Playmate to be on the cover of Playboy in her debut appearance. She eventually became Playmate of the Year and would find bigger fame as a Guess? model. In recent years, Smith found success with a reality show and as a spokesperson for the weight-reducing Trimspa company.
Smith's life was full of sadness, controversy and tragedy. In 1994, Smith made international headlines when she married her 89-year-old caretaker, billionaire Howard J. Marshall, Sr. Marshall died less than eighteen months later at the age of 91 and instantly Smith and Marshall's family battled for ownership of his estate. A California court would award Smith $400 million of the money, which was later overturned while a Texas court denounced Smith's claims.
Last September, Smith's lone son, Daniel, died late last year of a drug overdose a few hours after Smith gave birth to her daughter Dannielyn. Afterwards, a dispute came around about who was the father of Smith's baby. Smith's 20-year lawyer and later husband Howard K. Stern has stated that he was the father while Smith's former boyfriend David Birkhead claimed he was the father. The dispute was put in a series of interviews Smith gave to Entertainment Tonight and the Insider. Other than Marshall and Stern, Smith was formerly married to Bruce Smith in 1985 and divorced him within two years.
Smith was last seen at Hollywood's Hard Rock Cafe where she and Stern attended a boxing match. The hotel she was staying in at the time of her death was only minutes apart from each other. Again, Anna Nicole Smith is dead at the age of 39.
